HISTORY
The Oil Installation at Marsa was first commissioned by Shell International in 1960. The facility operated by Shell until 1975 when it was taken over by the Maltese Government and passed on to Sea Malta Company Ltd in September 1982 when Mediterranean Offshore Bunkering Company Ltd was established. The objective of the Company was to cater for the bunkering activities in Malta. During the years MOBC Ltd gained a reputable name in the bunkering business and this led to renovation of the installation in 1995/1996. Most of the terminal including the tank farm was demolished and replaced with a new state of the art facility with a new Administration building also being built. The new Installation was commissioned in May 1996 and has been in operation since then. This served to enhance MOBC’s activities as one of the leading bunker operators in the Mediterranean. Additional tankage was built during Years 2000 and 2004 bringing the total capacity of the terminal to 45,505mt. Throughout the years MOBC offered a good and reliable service to its strong and reputable clientele. The Company also entered into contractual agreements with major Oil Companies who made use of MOBC terminal and barges to service their own clients. Over the years the Company operated a number of barges. The first barge was the MT Danny Cremona which had 1000 MTS capacity. This was eventually replaced by MT St Elmo having a capacity of 2200MTS. Due to the increase in its activities the Company opted to time charter a second barge to operate concurrently with MT St Elmo. This new barge, the MT Vemaoil VI had a capacity of 3000mts. The MT St Elmo was sold in year 2000. The Company again time chartered a second vessel to operate concurrently with the MT Vemaoil VI, first it had the MT Vemachem III, then MT Vemachem IV and finally MT Oarsman which had a capacity of 2400mts. A small Gas Oil barge the MT Eldaren taking maximum 300mts was also chartered to cater for the deliveries requiring only gas oil supplies. The Company was again taken over by the Maltese Government from Sea Malta and Enemalta Corporation in 2002 . In July 2004 the Company’s activities changed from a Bunker Supplier to that of a storing depot following a decision taken by the Government.
